The Challenge

A feature-length documentary produced for the Department of Film and Publication (DFP). Five departments — camera, sound, lighting, art, and production — had to stay coordinated while filming in real, unpredictable locations. Documentary subjects don't follow call sheets, so the AD role meant staying ready for anything and keeping the shoot moving.

The Solution

01Came in at the first pre-production meeting and turned the creative vision into working documents — breakdown sheets, shot lists, crew call sheets

02Built Plan A / Plan B schedules so the crew could pivot without losing a shooting day when subject availability changed

03Kept the director, camera, sound, and production teams synchronized through every stage of the shoot

04Tracked the shot list live — what was in the can, what needed reshoots, and what had to be dropped when conditions changed

05Handed off to post-production with timecoded footage and complete production notes, and scheduled pickup shots
